EASA Categories

EWith the introduction of EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) regulations come three different categories for operating drones. These three categories (Open, Specific and Certified) cover the use of low, moderate, and high risk operations respectively. Dronewiser.eu focusses on the Open Category. This category is further divided into three sub-categories:

A1: Aimed at the recreational use of small drones up to 900 grams, you can fly over people but not large groups of people.

A2: Aimed at the professional use of medium size drones up to 4 kilograms, you must keep at least 5 metres distance from uninvolved people

A3: Aimed at the recreational use of large drones and model aircraft up to 25 kilograms, you must stay at least 150 metres outside residential, commercial, industrial or recreational areas.
